Where to Be a Witness

Key Scripture Matthew 5:13-16.

Overflow.

  • Example: Have you ever made a recipe where you put in too much of the ingredients and they ended up spilling out of the bowl or container that you’re trying to keep the ingredients contained in?
  • Whether it is baking or even filling a plate with too much food, the food spills out onto everything around it.
  • One issue in life is the compartmentalization of different areas and aspects of our life.
  • While that can be helpful in certain situations, our relationship with Jesus was never meant to stay within the confines of the mixing bowl or allocated to just one location in our life.
  • Quote: “At the end of the day, we don’t want merely to engage the culture but to change it." Trevin Wax.

Every Christian.

  • The call to be a witness in Acts 1 did not stay in one aspect of the disciples' lives.
  • Quote: “Every believer should be a ‘world Christian,’ able to function for the Savior from the other side of the street to the other side of the world.” Kenneth Gangel.

  • The call to be a witness is something that applies to believers everywhere.

Application.

  • The world needs to see believers living for God.
  • The Christian witness is connected to everyday life and all areas of our lives.
  • Believers should reflect the good news with how they live, no matter where they are.
  • Quote: “Every aspect of human life and culture is ripe for Christian witness. Every dimension of culture, whether it is art, science, or politics, is an arena in which we can speak about Christ with our lips and reflect him with our lives.” Bruce Ashford.
